Dealing With Litter
Common household litter is a major cause of ecosystem damage and needles loss of wildlife in Person County. Luckily, this litter problem can easily be solved if we all follow these simple rules:
Pack it in pack it out. Whenever you go hiking, canoeing, kayaking or have a picnic, bring along trash bags or zip top bags and bring any trash back with you. Before you leave the park, you can put it in our dumpster, which is located near camp area one.
During special events, look for blue plastic trash cans.
While boating, secure anything that may blow into the lake.
Do not leave discarded fishing line near the shore.
Helpful hints that will help you reduce waste, and make your camping experience more enjoyable:
When buying soft drinks for your camping trip, consider buying two liter bottles rather than cans or small bottles. Also consider using reusable rather than disposable cups. Doing this will not only reduce the amount of trash that goes into the landfill, but will save you money in the long run.
Bringing water to your site in reusable plastic bottles reduces the amount of trash you have to dispose of, and saves you money by eliminating the need to purchase bottled water. When you run out, simply fill your container up at a Mayo Park water fountain.
Try to buy food items that have little or no packaging. You can also leave trash at home by repackaging food items into reusable containers.
