The snapping turtle is a large freshwater turtle that lives from south eastern Canada to Ecuador and west to the Rocky Mountains.
Snapping turtles are named for their powerful beaked jaws, and are known for their aggressiveness. These turtles live in shallow lakes, ponds and streams. They can often be observed basking on logs or floating with only their heads exposed.
Typical diet for the snapping turtle includes frogs, snakes, fish, smaller turtles and small birds and mamals.
